Sleep is one of the biggest events of the year when it comes to hotel and hospitality design. It showcases the latest developments in upholstery and soft furnishing fabrics, lighting and interior products, as well as bringing to the fore the future trends for hotel rooms we should be looking out for. Here’s a snapshot of what we think was most exciting at this year’s event.

Bold Weaves

Mid-century design is as hot as ever at the moment, and its influences are sneaking through in all areas of commercial interiors. It seems as though recently we’ve been overloaded with upholstery prints, but at Sleep this year, there was a selection of beautiful patterned weaves on show that had mid-century feels, but with all the plushness and luxury you’d expect for a hotel interior.

Refined Lighting

Industrial and vintage are the main trends that have been dominating the lighting market for a while now, with wire bulbs, exposed cord and jam jars everywhere you look, but some manufacturers seem to have taken influence from these finishes and developed products fit for high-end hospitality, with poise and elegance.

Digital Avant-Garde

Sleep showcased 5 room-sets at this year’s event, designed by 5 different design houses, but our favourite by far was by Gensler. They presented an ‘exhibitionists’ room for the traveller wanting to create their own experiences. Although on approach the space looked a little cramped and hodgepodge, we thought the finishes in the space were beautifully curated, with every object seeming to have been carefully considered.
